Depict Review

I like this 90 second short film from Depict called 'Echo' because it was well made with a great story line that was creative and frighting to watch. I liked the cuts when she was attacked by whatever was in that tunnel with her was fast and at very good angels that made the acting more effective for the viewer to watch. Also, at the end the monsters hands looked very realistic and did not looked put in there by editing, it looked like it was actually in the tunnel standing there with her. The lighting also made it very effective and even more frighting as its dark and they use the shadows in the far distance the make it look like someone is coming but you have no idea who. They did use chiaroscuro which is the contrast between light and dark. This worked nicely between each camera shot because it showed her face between the light and dark which was effective. Their acting was very good and in my opinion it made this short film very realistic. They also used fake blood when she was lying on the floor after she had been attacked which made it real and fearful of what just attacked her.

I like this short film called 'Visiting' because again i love the story line and you can see how much hard work his been put into this short film with the editing and all the camera shots. They used cuts and zoom in slightly through editing. They also used a close up at the end on his face and then panned down into a close up on the baby when hes holding it. They also did some over the shoulder shots like at the very beginning when they are all sitting together talking. they did a mid close up on her hands at the beginning. One scene that was quite good with the editing was the scene where it goes black and its not fully clear, its a bit fuzzy but it sounds like they are speaking on the phone. They edited the sound in normally but then made it sound not clear as if they were taking on the phone. The fact that it went a black screen worked really well in this scene because the sound was very touching and if there was a picture of them talking on the phone i think it would have ruined the emotional part of this short film. The ending with the slow-mo was good when he held his granddaughter for the first time. I think they made a good choice to put that bit as a slow-mo because it made it heart warming and ended on a good note. The lighting in this short film is almost the same throughout. It almost looks like dusty lighting with some darkness here and there. The only time i would say the lighting changed a bit was the scene where they were holding hands with Christmas lights behind them. This changed the lighting and made the Christmas lights glow onto there faces and make a kind of yellow glow that looked warming and calm. The sound in this particular scene onward was no talking, it was just sad music in the background that had been edited in.
